Kambala - sport/art/passion - A photo documentary

Kambala or Kambla is a famous rural sport, prominent in districts of Udupi and Mangalore in the state of Karnataka in India. Kambala is also known to be held in few northern parts of Kerala like Kasargod.  Kambala is a traditional buffalo race in muddy waters, held from December till March on weekends (sat/sun) every year.

(Click on play button to watch the photo video)

Kambala is a race between pairs of bullocks, which are rode by a human. The bullocks are tied together with a wooden shaft over their neck. These bullocks are typically dedicated bullocks of the family for the Kambala and are pride of the family.

Got licensed

I have a good news; one of my images was recently licensed (RM) by Deborah for use on her blog at www.lifeinthefastlane.ca; below is a screen shot of the blog featuring my image. The original image can be viewed here (or here). This was shot on a moving train on my trip to Gokarna with my BWS gang. The model featured here is Shreelesh; he is one of my good photographer friend and partner in crime in most of the photography trips we go.

This image was sold in par with market rates and has been licensed for online use for 2 years for the blog under RM license. I would like to request the same to everyone don’t under sell your work and make it difficult for other pro photographers out there and never give images for free or for credit or for publicity unless they are a non-for-profit entity like a NGO.

Deborah has a very nice blog; do make sure you check it out at http://www.lifeinthefastlane.ca

Note: There are 3 images in total for the header which rotate, mine being one of them. If you don’t see it rotate, hit refresh in your browser.

Shots from Bangalore Strobist MeetUp

The Strobist meet up was great; though we started bit slow, we soon picked up momentum and we were kicking some serious watt power.

This was a great learning for everyone and we all had a good time. Thanks everyone for making this happen.

Couple of shots from the shoot..

Do click on the images to find the details on how it was shot like lighting setup.

Strobist MeetUp @ Srirangapatna

in search of light.. by akshath, on FlickrTo take things forward from my post ‘A quick start guide’ some time back… I would be organizing a Strobist MeetUp with some fellow photographers at Srirangapatna, so we could share and improve our lighting skills.

Date: Planning the event for Sunday the 25th of May 2008 (full day).
Place and location: Amblee Holiday Resort, Srirangapatna

Number of people in will be at most 9 photographers divided in 3 groups of 3 photographers.

At least one flash with remote trigger (PW or GI or cable or other) is required. This would make things much easier on exchanging gears if needed.

Also some models for TFCD (time for CD photo shoots)/ PFT (time for print) with a released signed for each participant would be more than welcome.

bring the world together | wish

Jehane Noujaim’s wish: “I wish to bring the world together for one day a year through the power of film.

In this hopeful talk, 2006 TED Prize winner Jehane Noujaim unveils her wish: a global acceptance of diversity, mediated through the power of film. The first step? Getting people to understand each other. In 2003, Noujaim gained access to both sides of the story of the Iraq war for her film Control Room, a dichotomy she illustrates with provocative clips of Al Jazeera journalist Sameer Khader and U.S. press officer Josh Rushing.

Noujaim ends by outlining her plans for Pangea Day, an event in which people all over the world can watch the same films at the same time. Watch the video for full talk.

Below are a few the Pangea Day trailer …

So mark this day “May 10, 2008″ and be part of Pangea Day.
